There Shall be Ubuntu Phones!!

I'm flabbergasted (is that even a word?) that no one on the Planet blogged about this (yet). That's definitively un-awesome. I *did* see posts about stuff absolutely unrelated to Ubuntu though: fictional TV series from days gone by and databases that I don't need. Why, oh why?

Anyways... Today, Mark, Jono, and Rick announced that there are two (2) manufacturers that will be making phones with Ubuntu pre-installed later this year.

Meizu

Now *that* is news that is worthy of Planet Ubuntu. And more than that: It's AWESOME!

You should give this video a watch!

Sorry for the delay. This *is* big news. It's really exciting in that Ubuntu mobile has the opportunity to open mobile innovation to everyone, not just wait for someone else to open it up or 'allow' it to be available. I've had the opportunity to actually use it, and the world is in for a very good surprise on the user interface front, as well. But the bigger excitement is certainly in the freedom department. Thanks, as always, for sharing this stuff. I trust you as my Ubuntu noise filter!

This is some of the most interesting Ubuntu news ever.

Someone sent me a text about the phone news before I had a chance to read it, since I was busy all day. My first reaction was to chece the Planet. However, I was surprised that no one was talking about this news; no one was talking about Ubuntu and its major selling points.

It appears as if the planet is mainly amplifying personal endeavors rather than having a voice for the project and its major developments. It's good in some ways, but also I believe that there is some neglegence in the posting that appears. I'm not really sure what the planet is about right now, but it doesn't seem to be Ubuntu news focused. Interesting.
